NVIDIA is looking to up the ante in the realm of notebook GPUs with its new GeForce 9M series. NVIDIA is banking on both power and efficiency to win over OEMs and end-users with the new GPUs.

NVIDIA claims that the new GeForce 9M GPUs are up to 40% faster than the previous generation GeForce 8M parts and as much as ten times faster than a certain chip giant’s “generic” integrated GPUs — namely, Intel. All of the new GPUs incorporate PureVideo HD and support DVI, HDMI 1.3, DisplayPort 1.1, and Blu-ray Profile 2.0. All GeForce 9M GPUs comply with the MXM 3.0 graphics module specification.

On other feature to consider with the GeForce 9M is the inclusion of Hybrid SLI technology. This allows OEMs to incorporate a low-power GPU for everyday desktop duties and a higher-performing part for graphics-intensive duties — NVIDIA SLI support may be added at a later date.

“Beginning this summer, GeForce 9M GPUs and Hybrid SLI, paired with AMD and Intel CPUs, will enable a new breed of notebooks,” said Jeff Fisher, NVIDIA’s GPU Senior VP. “These new notebooks will be optimized to deliver a visual experience and raw computing performance that traditional cookie-cutter notebooks with integrated graphics simply can’t touch.”

In addition, this new GPU features a multi-core architecture which will not only speed up entertainment applications, but will also speed up today’s lifestyle applications, like video encoding from a PC to a small personal media device, where the speed up in the video conversion is up to 5x faster with the GeForce 9M family GPUs.”

NVIDIA has broken the GeForce 9M into three categories: Value, Mainstream, and Performance. The Value sector will be solely represented by the GeForce 9100M G. The Mainstream sector will be propped up by the GeForce 9400M, GeForce 9300M GS, and GeForce 9200M GS. Finally, the Performance sector features the GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce 9600M GS, and GeForce 9500M G.

Unlike some of ATI’s latest graphics offerings, the new GeForce 9M series will not support DirectX 10.1. NVIDIA says that consumers will base their buying decisions on price and performance and that support for a particular API is not of extreme importance.

For those looking to take advantage of PhysX a recent acquisition of NVIDIA’s drivers are expected to be made available during Q3 2008. It Should be interesting while how things in the graphics market pan out as Intel and NVIDIA continue to cross paths within the next 18 months.

Is talk about new launched product of MSI, wich dropped with this morning the £329 Wind ultraportable to direct competition with Eee PC 900.

This product will goes on sale the second week of June in the UK, and will be formally launched at Computex on 3rd June. The full specification is already widely known, but we promised to play coy and not reveal what processor can be found in this particular model until the formal annnouncement. So, bear that in mind as you take a gander at the photos after the cut.

First impressions are very, very good – the MSI Wind feels very solid and despite the case being made all plastic, it feels far from cheap. The white case has a similar pearlescent finish as the Eee PC 900 and 701 4G, but it isn’t quite so glossy as we liked it, but we think it’ll look better in black. The first batch of MSI Winds to go on sale will be white  and MSI doubts the pink model will make it to the UK.

At the diameter of 260 x 180 x 31mm and 1.26kg, it’s closer in size and weight to the HP 2133 Mini-Note, but this is a model with an optional six-cell battery (more on this later). The three cell model that will actually be on sale will weight closer to 1kg.

The two most striking things about the MSI Wind are the screen and keyboard – both are bigger than the Asus Eee PC 900’s. The screen has a 10 in diagonal and a 1024 x 600 resolution, and is very crisp – it’s easily as good as the Eee PC’s. The keyboard is bigger than the Eee PC’s and a little smaller than the HP 2133 Mini-Note’s, but it extends right to the edges of the case. The key tops are large and comfortable to type on.

The MSI Wind we saw was the highest specification model with, ahem, that processor, 1Gb of DDR2 RAM, 80Gb 5400rpm hard disk and Windows XP SP2. This will be the model on sale initially for £329 inc VAT, but less well-equipped models, some with SUSE Linux and an 8.9in screen, will follow later in the year. The 80Gb hard disk is standard across all models, though.

Today, VIA has launched a low-cost notebook. its called VIA Openbook mini-note. The OpenBook is based around VIA’s venerable C7-M processor (1.0GHz to 1.6GHz) and features the new VX800 integrated chipset (VIA Chrome9, DirectX 9.0) to handle graphics duties. its will be nice for graphic or video playing.

The OpenBook comes equipped with an 8.9″ display — like many of its competitors — and features a resolution of 1024×600. Other features include three USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 media reader, 2MP digital camera, VGA connector, WiFi, and Bluetooth. The OpenBook can also be optioned with WiMAX, HSDPA, or EV-DO depending on your usage needs. Users can also choose from a variety of HDD or solid state disk (SSD) storage options.

If all of this sounds familiar, it should come as no surprise that an eerily similar product was announced by Everex in early April. Although VIA informed us that the “[Everex] CloudBook Max was designed by a different company,” one only needs to look at the pictures and the specifications to see that the two notebooks are virtual twins.

The VIA OpenBook will be compatible with Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows XP, and Linux when it ships later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced for notebooks using this reference design, but expect them to occupy the $400 to $600 price range depending on communications and storage options.

This is samsung’s new product wich will introduce for this last year. a new variant of SATA II SSD should obliterate the competition with read speeds of 200MB/sec and write speeds of an amazing 160MB/sec. This compares to 120MB/sec and 40MB/sec respectively for Super Talents latest SSDs. Even Mtron falls far behind Samsung’s new 256GB SSD with read speeds of 120MB/sec and write speeds of 100MB/sec.

Samsung is using single-level cell (SLC) NAND chips to achieve these unheard of performance figures, however, the company instead settled on cheaper multi-level cell (MLC) NAND chips on this product. With development of the 256GB SSD, the notebook PC is on the brink of a second stage of evolution.

However, as the technology matures, we can expect to see prices drop as we have seen with the offerings from Super Talent. And if Intel has anything to say about it, it will offer SSD performance that will rival all contenders and likely will use its girth to push pricing further down to “mere mortal” levels. its will bea nice product that have any special features wich help you to save data in a simple package. Sprint and Samsung are looking to take a bite out of the Apple iPhone’s reign as the touch-screen mobile device of choice with their announcement Tuesday of the Samsung Instinct, a full touch-screen device that Sprint claims supports the lightning fast speeds of Sprint’s broadband network.

Coming in June, the Instinct is an EV-DO Rev. A device which Sprint said “speeds up the user experience like no other touch-screen phone,” an obvious jab at Apple’s iPhone, which dominates the touch-screen space.

“The iPhone set the bar for user interface,” Sprint product commercialization director David Owens told Reuters. “We wanted to have an equivalent experience.”

Sprint expects the Instinct will be its top seller this year in its bid to win back customers who ran to AT&T, the country’s exclusive provider for the iPhone.

“Our goal is clearly that it’s a large volume,” Owens said.

According to Sprint, the Instinct features a touch-screen with localized tactile feedback, called haptics, which allow the virtual QWERTY keypad and other operations to become “a sensory experience.” The mobile phone also features a Voice to Action button offering access to functions through voice activation, including call, text, picture message, traffic, movie, sports, news and search.

The device measures 2.17 inches by 4.57 inches by 0.49 inches and weighs less than 4.5 ounces, Sprint said. It features advanced functions like Visual Voicemail, which lets users listen to messages in their order of preference and manage them with a screen tap. It also offers support for corporate and consumer POP3 email accounts, multitasking that lets users play music in background mode while surfing the Internet, texting or playing games; a 2.0 megapixel camera with camcorder and expandable microSD memory of up to 8 Gb. Other features include stereo Bluetooth 2.0; an integrated world clock, SMS voice and text messaging with threaded text, phone as a modem, picture caller ID and Sprint Mobile Sync.

The Samsung Instinct marks Sprint’s first EV-DO Rev. A consumer device. It offers Web browsing, business and personal email access, picture sharing, commercial-free radio and other features at broadband speeds. Additionally, the device opens up access to Sprint exclusive services and multimedia content including Sprint Navigation, a system powered by Telenav with GPS-enabled audio and visual turn-by-turn driving directions, one-click traffic rerouting and more than 10 million local listings; and live search, delivered through Microsoft, which offers access to director information, GPS-enabled directions, interactive maps and one-touch click-to-call access.

The Instinct also boasts entertainment features like Sprint TV, which offers live and on-demand programming; Sprint Exclusive Entertainment, a made-for-mobile sports and entertainment video programming network; and Sprint Music Store, which lets users browse and wirelessly download full songs directly to the device for $0.99 each.

Lastly, the device offers Pocket Express, which gives up-to-date information on sports, weather, news, movie times and other customized options based on the user’s zip code.

According to Sprint, the majority of its mobile broadband network has been upgraded to EV-DO Rev. A technology, allowing the Samsung Instinct to offer “blazing fast” speeds. Currently, Sprint’s mobile broadband network reaches more than 242 million people in 15,325 cities and touches 1,452 airports.

With the EV-DO Rev. A network, peak download data rates can reach 3.1 Mbps and peak upload rates can hit 1.8 Mbps. Average download speeds on EV-DO Rev. A can hit 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps and average uplink speeds between 350 Kbps and 500 Kbps.

“Instinct brings customers what they want with the immediacy they want,” said Sprint senior vice president of product development and chief marketing officer John Garcia in a statement. “Every decision during the development process focused on simplifying the user experience. The end result is a great-looking phone that makes the value of Sprint’s fast NOW Network come to live, but most importantly, it is fun and easy to use.”

Along with its multimedia capabilities, Samsung’s Instinct has three dedicated keys — phone, back and home — on the lower portion of the handset to ease operation and navigation. The phone key takes the user back to voice calling and features such as speed dial, visual voicemail, contact and the dial pad, while the back key lets the user take a step back. The home key offers access to the four main function menus on the user interface: favorites, main, fun and Web.

The favorites icon gives one-touch access the most used features, allowing customization and personalization. Favorites can include Web sites, TV channels, text messaging and more. The main function offers access to applications like messaging, voicemail, GPS navigation and more. Fun takes users to their music, TV, photos, games and more. And the Web tab accesses the Internet and all things Web-related like weather and news.

“Samsung designed the Instinct after spending years developing innovative touch-screen technology,” said Samsung Mobile chief marketing officer Bill Ogle. “What really sets the Instinct apart is the ability to access users’ favorite features with just one touch of the device. The three navigation keys that Samsung positioned at the bottom of the Instinct are instrumental in making the user experience quick and easy.”

While pricing of the Samsung Instinct has not yet been determined, Sprint said it would cost less than $300. The cheapest iPhone model currently costs $399, while the iPhone model with additional storage reaches just under $500. Sprint said the device will require activation on a Sprint Everything pricing plan, which offers 450 voice minutes and unlimited data for $69 and unlimited voice and data for $99.

Current Analysis analyst Avi Greengart told Reuters the device alone can’t won’t necessarily save Sprint, but offering the Instinct with unlimited data plans could be a silver lining.

“Everyone’s going to offer you something that looks like an iPhone,” he said. “Here’s something that also offers you a lot of cool things to do with it at a flat rate.”

The Instinct comes with a 2 Gb microSD card that holds roughly 2,000 songs from the Sprint Music Store; two standard 1,000 mAmp batteries that offer up to 5.75 hours of continuous talk time each; a battery charging sleeve; a travel charger; a USB cable; 3.5 mm headphones with a built-in microphone; and a leather case with a stylus.
